Starfish House is one of Northland’s most stylish and artistic holiday homes. Placed on a hilltop overlooking beautiful Matapouri Bay on the Tutukaka Coast, the House looks straight out to the Poor Knights Islands. Starfish is a great place to stay if you’ve come to Tutukaka to dive our famous shipwrecks and the Poor Knights Marine Reserve, now ranked the top sub-tropical dive site in the World.

The Tutukaka Coast also offers wonderful boating, yachting, deep-sea and line fishing, kayaking, whale and dolphin watching, surfing, walking tracks, as well as superb beaches for swimming and snorkelling. For holiday accommodation in Tutukaka, Starfish House has it all... stunning views, relaxed comfort, style and charm. We are only 2.5 hours from Auckland, half an hour from Whangarei and 1 hour south of the Bay of Islands.

The relaxed lifestyle of the locals and the relative unspoilt nature of this piece of pristine New Zealand, guarantee visitors a total escape from the worries of the world and a warm welcome to an authentic kiwi experience. Our aim is to send visitors home from their vacation having tasted fully just what its like to live, work and play here.

Starfish is a special place built by artists, for artists, to live and work in seamless harmony. Its architectural excellence, inspiring interiors and stunning outlook, earned it a 7-page spread in NZ House and Garden in March 1998.

There’s an Art Gallery, Starfish Gallery, built next to the House where the very best of local art can be viewed and purchased including the widest range of paintings and prints by popular Northland artist Tom Burnett.

Creative weekend workshops are also available at Starfish. Participants can chose from mosaics, jewellery, tivaevae, Spanish Cooking, painting, massage, pampering and much more.

The House is also now open as a boutique venue for weddings and other special celebrations as well as for small, corporate conferences and planning meetings.
In-house catering is always happily available.

Visitors to the Tutukaka Coast can chose to stay at Starfish House as fully-catered home stay guests, just do B&B for a night or two, or rent the whole House for an extended period for a special family or group holiday.
